An
Adze or Adz
-
(pronounced
/aedz/) is a tool used for smoothing
rough-cut wood. Generally,
the user stands astride a board or log and
swings the adze downwards towards their
feet, chipping off pieces of wood, moving
backwards as they go and leaving a
relatively smooth surface behind. This
century old adze measures 10-3/4 inches in
length with a 4 inch wide cutting edge, has
the typical rectangle shaped hole for the
handle. Original cost was over $25.
